New blogging gig, new review article on Deacon/So Percussion

A couple of weeks ago, I contacted the New York- and Chicago-based music blog Consequence of Sound to see if they’d be interested in having me write an occasional piece on classical music in NYC. I was drawn to them because they actually had a Phishhead write a review of a Phish show, as opposed to the usual reviews by a rock writer who, quite frankly, doesn’t get IT. Turns out, they were more than interested in an occasional piece, and they asked me to be a regular writer for them!

So, I’ll be covering, for lack of a better term, the “contemporary classical scene” in New York City for CoS! I’m really excited, the traffic is obviously much higher than my little corner of the blogosphere here at Smooth Atonal Sound, and their layout is quite professional. Don’t worry though, I’m not abandoning this site – I’ll still do plenty of other entries over here. Plus, I’ll link to any posts that get put up at CoS.

So, to start off my new “job” with CoS, I reviewed Dan Deacon’s concert with So Percussion last Thursday night, 1/20, as part of the Ecstatic Music Festival. The link is at the bottom of this post, leave a comment there or here. Also, check out this killer Flickr feed of official photos from the event. And of course, I should mention the excellent photos taken for my article by the incomparable Jess Lee. Thanks for everyone’s support on this blog so far – it’s been a lot of fun in its short life, and I’m excited to keep it going. In the meantime, check out Consequence of Sound.
